Today, I came across a photograph that I took exactly 3 years ago, yesterday (12/18/2006). I don't take many photos, but I just so happened to take one yesterday (12/18/2009). I was astonished by my transformation in three years time. It's comforting to know that the transformation from girl to woman is evident on the inside as well as outside.

Story time.
[I apologize in advance for my derailed train of thought]

I was leaving a friend's house today and it was so cold outside that I had the oddest urge to smoke a cigarette. I've never smoked a "Loosey/Lucy" (lol) in my life so I wouldn't even know if they warmed one up or not. That thought, in turn, reminded me that the majority of artistic people and their imagery utilize cigarettes. Artsy people are pretty fucked up mentally, perhaps the tobacco provides some stimulating depressant. Hm. At any rate. I continued my thought for a few minutes more and almost peer pressured my damn self into thinking smoking would make me look "more artsy". And then I snapped out of it and came to the conclusion that cigarettes are only sexy in photography, more specifically, that of high fashion.
Besides, kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray.

And then, after all of that, I come across this today:

Bizarre, right?

Supermodel Daul Kim, one of the most recognizable faces of Chanel, Alexander McQueen and others, is yet another victim of the pressures of beauty in our culture. She was found hanging in her Parisian apartment on November 19th. This is especially haunting to me not only because I am currently building my journalistic portolio and am doing a piece on this very subject, but because this seemingly acclimated young woman was exactly one year younger than me, born on May 31, 1989. I have always been affected by this subject because being so enveloped in such a narcissistic industry the lack of reality is, all too often, distorted and ultimately, very jading. This 20 year old woman won't have the opportunity to explore all of life's opportunities because sadly, once you [seemingly] have all the keys to life's doors, there's nothing left to explore.

What would you do if you could see everything?

Greetings, my faithful readers..

Seeing as you have been so patient with my development, as well as my blog's, I would like to give you a little more insight of the woman on the other side of the screen. If you're not interested, please disregard.

In the last few months, I have experienced many changes; all of which left me either an emotional basketcase, spontaneously blissful, vulnerable, responsibly irresponsible, or dead broke. My sister has gotten married (Still, wow.) & our relationship is constantly strengthening, I landed an amazing position working with kids, and a vast chapter in my life has, since, passed but with it came an overwhelming, positive outlook on my life & future. It's funny how one becomes so adjusted to the smoke that they only realize they couldn't see 10 steps in front of them until the smoke has cleared. And although my future is not completely visible, it is becoming clearer. Until then, I am taking all of the necessary steps to ensure I am ready to hit the ground running. I, once, heard that luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

I am bursting at the seams with motivation and enthusiasm. Lately, I've been inspired by absolutely everything; a very invaluable feeling. I'm learning how to channel my emotions, rather than bottle them, to accept my quirky flaws as a component of my character, and to accept responsiblity even if it is that of someone else. Why, yes. I am high off life (fuck it, I'm wasted).

I find that I laugh too loudly, I'm only sociable when it is convenient for me, I take people for granted, I'm almost always pessimistic, and that I am too impatient with those who do not think the way I do.
So.What.

I have tried new things, spoke to new people, expanded my horizons, done things I would normally refuse to do, walked aimlessly, smiled without purpose, and have opened up to more people in the last 3 months than I have done in 5 years.
I'm on this whole "PRO-LIFE" kick; which can make me pretty annoying from time to time. No, I'm not always optimistic or in high spirits but I am always genuine and looking forward. I'd like for you to be a part of my journey.

I recently purchased what has become one of my most impactful purchases. Once used as a coping mechanism, it quickly grew into an entirely new approach to life & gaining what it is I am seeking.

It reminds me, on a daily basis, to sever the ties that bind me. It is never too late to rebuild burned bridges, forgive, forget, accept, rekindle, restart, or redo. Personally, professionally, emotionally, scholastically, whatever.

So, per my The Devil is Dope Post, I really don't listen to the radio much anymore. I needed crap-rap BREAK. But the few times I tried my luck, I would catch Ye's verse at the beginning of this track, and once I realized it was a Beyonce production, I went back to my trusty CD collection.

Let's first address the song's title, "Ego". [Insert every man's justification as to why you don't want to give their crusty ass your phone number here. Great.] Now, lets address how all of her video's since Get Me Bodied have been carbon copies of each other. Thirdly, Yes. Just in case you weren't certain, the lyrics are sexual innuendos. So, here's the thing--

I visited a Herve Leger boutique a while back. Clearly, I'm already in the wrong. If you aren't familiar with Herve, he designed the infamous bandage dress:

I'm a thin woman, but I have a little curve to me so I thought one of these dresses would showcase them a little better.
And boy, did it.

I walked in there all hoity-toity like I could buy out the bar (it's a figure of speech, don't worry about it), so when I peeked at the price tag I had to avoid looking at the sales associate directly in the eye.

Oh, but you don't understand; this gown was magnificent. I can't even imagine having any place to go that's spectacular enough to wear this dress, but believe me, I'd wear it to the grocery store.

Okay, so here's the thing.

I have these shoes.
Well, they're not just shoes. They're black, Guess by Marciano peep toe mary jane pumps with textured leather, with a 4 1/2" heel and a 1/2" hidden platform. Needless to say, they're magnificent. They look a little something like this:

Minus the red suede, and with a slightly higher ankle strap.

Here's the sad part: they're dying. I could've just as easily taken a picture of them to show you the damage but I'm sure you'd like to keep down your dinner and I'd like to keep my dignity.

It is a virtual certainty that, if nothing else, a woman must own a pair of black pumps; one may even go as far as to specify a black stiletto. Now, with that said, any dollar amount may be spent on said black stiletto's because they are again, a virtual certainty.

I've seen these posts done before and thought it'd be fun to do one of my own. I realize that you probably don't care what's in my purse, but that's not of my concern. You're going to look in my bag and like it!

[Clears throat.]

-First up, we have the ULTRA, Top Secret Handy Dandy Notebook. I can't leave home without it. It feels like I'm not wearing any pants.

-Why, yes. That is two pair of sunglasses. Very imperative. Neither are particularly neutral.

-A plethora of writing utensils. I feel like people who can never find something to write with are unorganized and don't take themselves seriously. So, naturally, I overcompensate.

-A wallet that my parents got me for Christmas. It's like a grown up Trapper Keeper.
(Don't act like you don't remember Trapper Keepers.)

-Carmex. It is, indeed, so cold in the D.

-My checkbook. Complete with animal print checks. I couldn't resist.

-My crackberry. Naturally.

-My Digital Camera.

Don't ask me how I came across this today. I can assure you, my train of thought is way too abstract. I've now been reading this lady's blog for an hour and a half and she's absolutely delightful. Here's one of her posts. You can view her blog here.

Ode to a Bag Boy

Here’s to you, grocery store bag boy. He who stands at the end of the conveyor belt, vacant look upon youthful acne-prone face. Your indifference to your surroundings so poignant, so profound. Casually you fill my bags with vegetables and chicken, taking care to separate the two.

I pretend not to notice that you gave the celery it’s own bag. I understand, Bag Boy. I’ve heard that celery is the most angry vegetable in the bunch. Like a Siamese fighting fish, it’s best not paired with anything else. I guess. Or perhaps that’s your one joy, making one bag always hold a singular item. A sunny spot in an otherwise fluorescent light existence.

I know you wear many hats, Bag Boy — facing the shelves so all the Newman’s Own pasta sauce is in an even row, stacking salsa at the end of the aisles and occasionally, rounded up shopping carts left in the parking lot. I try to do my part and always return mine to the specified shopping cart daycare so that you, Bag Boy, don’t have to gather mine from a dark parking space. I know you appreciate it and just forgot to say thank you. I understand.

You’re more complex than you come across. Your iPod plays the rhythm of some obscure indie band, I’m sure, touching you so deeply you forget to wear your belt to work, causing you to hike up your sagging pants while simultaneously handling my yogurt. Don’t be fresh, now. And it makes you unique, you know, to wear your hat sideways instead of to the front.

So here’s to you, grocery store Bag Boy. He of reusable shopping bags and double coupons. I look forward to seeing you next week.

Oh! Almost forgot.

I had the wonderful opportunity to view the tragedy that was MSU first hand, via the AT&T Suite. The set up was very nice, to say the least. The game, meh, not so much. Although I will say this, whoever makes the highlight reels for sports deserves a
6-figure salary. Every highlight or promo video they aired gave me chills, and I hardly follow college basketball.

We also got the chance to watch MJ (THE MJ)get inducted into the Hall of Fame, along with a David Robinson and a few other guys I didn't know about because they played the game before I started to follow it.

I'm still a MSU fan. GO GREEN! Woot Woot!

So, here's the thing:

I bought these shoes from ASOS

and I wasn't quite hip enough to know the size difference between US shoe sizes and UK shoe sizes. Of course, I only realized this 15 days after ordering them and the return policy only allows 14 days for returns. FML.

Anyway, I'm selling them on ebay now. There a US size 7 and the soles are so clean you could lick them, although I suggest you not. Brand new, never worn. They really are super cute so if you're interested, go forth and bid.

I've come to the realization that I can't be an ordinary human. Not because my name is Blue, or my process of thought is a bit advanced, or even that I'm divinely favored; I suppose it's just not in my genetic makeup to be average. It's not like I haven't tried to ignore the obvious. It's a gift and a curse, really.
